The Three Types of Healthcare

There are three types of health care and all three exist in today's society.

The first is Symptomatic or Relief Care. Symptomatic or Relief Care is exactly what it sounds like. Individuals go to a doctor or a health care provider when they are sick or have some symptoms and hope that the doctor can fix it. This is a very reactionary approach to health care and unfortunately it is what the majority of the world practices today. It is also the most costly approach to health care. That is in part why medical costs are so high and we still have millions of sick, "healthy" people running around America.

The second is Preventive Care. Preventive Care is much more proactive. In Preventive health care we do not go to the doctor only to get "fixed" from a symptom but now our goal is to not get sick or hurt in the first place. Programs like Backsafe and other occupational programs are teaching workers how to do their job more effectively and greatly reducing the chances of injury. We now see screenings at health fares all of which are designed to find problems before they become major problems. This type of care is initially more expensive but over time it is far less expensive to both patients and third party insurances.
